Instructions for Making the Most of Your Scrap the Light Ministry
MOST IMPORTANT STEP – Find someone in church with a pickup truck willing to help with Missions.
- Print Flyer & Scrap List and pass them out in church & explain what you are doing (recycling their junk into souls)
- Have a drop off point at church (Its more convenient for people to bring scrap when they are coming to church.
- Call local scrap yards/dealers in your area to find out who is paying top dollar for which types of scrap.
- Separate your scrap – wires, copper, brass, & aluminum bring much more than steel.
- Keep the congregation informed (via announcement ex overhead projection or bulletin) of how much you are making
- Remove wires & cords from appliances & all electrical motors
- If possible have a separate pile or truck for steel & light metals – Its easier to handle when you keep it separate.
- Take scrap to the yard in the name of your church, then there are no tax complications for the income.
- Let the scrap dealers know why you are bringing scrap – they may be sensitive to you and give you a little more for your loads. PLUS (its a good witness)
- If possible go around your neighborhoods on trash day or night before & pick up valuable scrap.
- If people have a garage that has a lot of scrap in it – offer to come to their home to pick it up – (it could be a real treasure hunt)
- If people give you items too good to scrap… List in Craig’s List or Ebay and increase your profit potential
